Shelley Thompson

Shelley Thompson has been practicing law for 23 years. Prior to founding her own firm, Shelley was a Shareholder at Burns Figa & Will, PC. Shelley handles all aspects of Wills, Trusts, and Estates matters, as well as certain business matters. She assists clients with trusts, estates, probate, businesses, contracts, buy-sell agreements, operating agreements, prenuptial agreements, and disputes. She also represents fiduciaries in assisting with trust and estate administration, and serves as fiduciary in certain cases.

Shelley has served as an expert witness on trusts and estates issues, as well as buy-sell terms. Shelley’s litigation experience includes trusts and estates litigation, complex securities litigation, constitutional law matters, business disputes, and bankruptcy adversary litigation.  Prior to law school, Shelley’s work experience included office administration, securities compliance, retail, and food and beverage service. Shelley teaches Estate Planning at the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business. She is or has been a member of the Denver Estate Planning Council, Trusts and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Women’s Bar Association, Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, and MSI Global Alliance (international legal and accounting firm association).

Shelley has spoken, published, and presented CLEs on topics such as planned giving, exit planning, estate planning for business owners, wills versus trusts, entity choice, international securities, and ethics matters. Shelley was chosen by SuperLawyers as a 2016 Colorado Rising Star in Estate Planning and Probate, received the Client’s Choice Award in 2015 by Avvo Advisor, and was a finalist in the Young Professional Award 2009 by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

Shelley has volunteered with the Denver Rescue Mission, Metro Volunteer Lawyers, Metrocare, Community Health Charities of Colorado, and as a tutor and volunteer in public school districts. Shelley has performed pro bono litigation on constitutional law issues, and a derivative shareholder case that changed New York condominium laws. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Shelley received her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her Juris Doctor and Masters of Arts in International Affairs from American University in Washington D.C.

She completed an internship on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Shelley is licensed to practice law in Colorado and New York. She is proficient in Spanish. Shelley is a single mom of two successful teenagers, who enjoys running, camping, fly-fishing, and the Colorado outdoors.

Tricia Scoby

With over 20 years experience in the legal field, Tricia is an experienced Paralegal assisting with estate planning, trust and probate administration, and office management.

Tricia graduated from Minot State University in North Dakota with a degree in Criminal Justice and moved to Colorado, where she obtained her paralegal certification in 1996. Prior to focusing her career on estate planning, she worked in mortgage banking, corporate, and mergers and acquisitions.  Tricia truly enjoys assisting clients navigate the estate planning process and the legal and financial matters that must be handled after the loss of a loved one.
